Round About’s fourth album, 2022’s Inner Voices & Curious Choices, can be best described as a bittersweet success. First delayed by the pandemic, the album was released on the heels of bassist (and co-founder) Dave Mehring’s departure from the area, and once again aims to highlight a variety of musical styles under the band's melodic pop/rock umbrella.
Primary singer and songwriter Patrick Garrity says, “While Aaron and I will continue playing Round About acoustic duo shows moving forward, this album is a culmination for us as a rock band that really shows how far we’ve come over the last decade. It’s the most balanced and varied the songwriting has ever been, about as well as we’ve ever played in the studio, and I’m especially glad we were able to formally capture Phil’s time and talent as our drummer.”
As on all their albums, longtime friend and keyboardist Mark Bower once again adds some organ on a few songs. And very special guest Michael Clem (from Northern Virginia’s Eddie From Ohio) graciously contributes harmonica on a track as well.
Garrity adds, “Though it took longer than expected, I can’t think of a better way to close out the ‘full band’ chapter of Round About...I’m proud of all our records, but this is the best thing we’ve ever done.”
“Sending Out Signals” was awarded “Finalist” in the Pop Category of the 2022 Mid-Atlantic Song Contest by the Songwriters Association of Washington.
“The Blind Lead the Blind” was awarded “Honorable Mention” in the Rock/Alternative Category of the 2022 Mid-Atlantic Song Contest by the Songwriters Association of Washington.
